Physical Installation

This guide describes the procedures for installing, cabling, and provisioning Lantronix LM4 Local Managers.

Please read the Lantronix Safety Summary before proceeding with installation.

Site Requirements

Ensure that the power source meets the following requirements:

  • Provides appropriate power as required by the Local Manager
  • Provides overload protection
  • Is connected to earth ground

Danger

The power source must meet all requirements to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Ensure the installation site ambient temperature does not exceed 131°F (55°C) or fall below 32°F (0°C).

Caution

The unit will overheat if the sites does not meet these requirements.

Optional Equipment

The following optional equipment is available for Lantronix LM4 Local Managers.

  • USB temperature/humidity sensor
  • USB LCD and keypad
  • USB cellular modem

Install a temperature and humidity sensor

Environmental monitoring is available via a USB-connected temperature and humidity sensor.

Follow these steps to connect the sensor. The Local Manager does not need to be powered down for installation of this sensor.

  1. Plug the sensor into one of the two USB connections on the Local Manager.
  2. Place sensor collection end in the area you wish to collect environmental information, ideally not near a fan or on hot equipment.

It may take up to 10 minutes for the sensor to normalize to the environmental temperature and begin reporting consistent data.

Install an external LCD and keypad

The Local Manager does not need to be powered down for installation of the external USB-connected LCD and keypad.

The LCD and keypad only works when the application is running.

To install, plug the LCD and keypad module into one of the two USB connections on the Local Manager.

Install a USB cellular modem

Modem functionality is available via the Lantronix M114 Cat1 Bis cellular modem.

The Lantronix M114 Cat1 Bis cellular modem should be powered down before installing. The Local Manager does not need to be powered down for installation of the USB-connected cellular modem.

To install, use a USB-A to USB-C cable to connect the cellular modem to one of the USB connections on the Local Manager.

Deployment Options

The LM4 Local Manager has the following deployment options:

  • Rack mounted in a standard 19-inch rack in a left or right mount configuration using the one provided rack mounting ear.
  • DIN rail mounted for industrial or telecom racks. DIN rail mount must be purchased separately.
  • Placed on a shelf, desktop, or other device.

Install chassis in rack

The LM4 Local Manager can be deployed on a standard 19-inch rack in a left mount or right mount configuration as shown below.

Connect to Power

Before connecting the Local Manager to power, ensure all site requirements are met.

If you're powering the Local Manager from an AC outlet, use the optional AC to DC power supply and power cord with a regional adapter that is suitable for your location.

  1. Connect the power supply to the 4-pin DC connector on the LM4.
  2. Connect the power cord to the C14 input on the power supply.
  3. Connect the power cord to a power outlet.
  4. Power the unit on by pressing the Power button on the front panel of the Local Manager. The system status LED will blink while the Local Manager boots up and become a solid green light flashing once every two seconds when the boot sequence is complete.

You are now ready to complete the initial setup of the Lantronix Local Manager.
