Platform Overview

This document provides an overview of the Lantronix LM4 Local Manager.

Caution

DO NOT connect Power Over Ethernet (PoE) to any Local Manager serial port. Doing so will likely damage the port as well as the unit.

Lantronix LM4 Local Manager

The LM4 hardware is a compact Local Manager offering a fixed set of serial ports for connection to managed devices.

Management Network Connectivity

The LM4's management network operates in bonded mode by default and supports the following interfaces:

  • 1x 10/100/1000 BaseT Ethernet
  • 1x 1 GbE SFP

There is a primary copper Ethernet interface and a secondary SFP interface. The secondary interface can operate in bonded, outband, DHCP, or capture mode.

Management Console Connectivity

The Local Manager has a standard RJ-45 RS-232 console port operating at 9600, 8N1 for configuration. The console port is auto-sensing DCE/DTE.

USB Port

Two USB-A ports allow for the attachment of peripherals such as a temperature/humidity sensor, LCD display and control module, USB modem, or USB flash drive.

Device Management Ports

The Local Manager has 4 built-in serial console ports for connecting to managed devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, etc. Device management ports operate in DCE mode.

Power

The LM4 hardware provides a DC power input (9 to 60 VDC), with power consumption less than 24W.

The LM4 can be used with an external AC to DC power supply. The power supply produces a DC output of 12 VDC, 3A, and has a 4-pin connector. AC input for the power supply is 100-240VAC, 50-60HZ, 1.4A.
