Server Setup for OOB Devices

Note

Server setup is only necessary when working with out-of-band (OOB) management devices. No configuration is necessary for IoT devices or network switches.

Firmware and configuration files are transferred to SLC, SLB, and EMG devices using a Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) or File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server.

LPM can act as an SFTP server or can use an external server. If using FTP you must use an external FTP server.

  • Using LPM as the server is recommended if the firmware and configuration files are stored on the same computer that runs LPM.
  • Using an external server is recommended if the firmware and configuration files are stored on a different computer or if multiple computers will be using LPM.
To use an external server, one must be installed and configured before using LPM.

See Server Settings for instructions on configuring the SFTP/FTP server settings for managing configuration and firmware files for OOB devices.
