Central Management (Registration)¶
Note
See Supported Devices for a list of devices and minimum required firmware version of devices that support central management (Percepxion) integration.
Lantronix Provision Manager lets you register Lantronix devices for central management in Percepxion.
Use Automatic Device Registration, which is recommended, to automatically register devices in Percepxion. An active Internet connection is required on the computer running LPM.
Use Manual Device Registration to register devices in Percepxion using a multi-step process. Manual Device Registration can be done on a computer running LPM without an active Internet connection in conjunction with another computer that does have Internet access.
Note
In some cases, provisioning and registering a device may fail if the device is not first imported using the Central Management (Import) feature.
Before Registration¶
- Note that the Central Management host server must be reachable from the computer running LPM and the device being registered.
- Ensure your Percepxion account has permission to import devices.
Automatic Device Registration Procedure¶
Use Automatic Device Registration to provision and register devices quickly. This requires an Internet connection on the computer running LPM as well as a Percepxion account.
To automatically provision and register devices:
- Click Provision on the side menu.
- Select one or more devices to update. They must all be the same type of device (for example, all SLB devices).
- Click Central Management > Registration.
- The radio button next to Automatic Device Registration ('preferred') is already selected. Click Next.
- Provide your Percepxion credentials in the Username, Password, Portal, and Organization fields. If these were provided in the Provisioning Configurations setting, these fields will be pre-populated but can be edited.
- Use the LocalAdmin checkbox to indicate if the provided Organization Admin credentials are local or remote - if unchecked, the provided credentials are treated as remote admin credentials (LDAP, RADIUS, TACACS, SAML, etc.).
- If you are using Percepxion with LDAP, TACACS+, or SAML authentication, LPM will attempt to use the credentials with these authentication methods as well. No configuration is required.
- Click Finish.
- If SAML authentication has been enabled in Percepxion, a login page will be displayed; enter the SAML login credentials.
If two-factor authentication (2FA) has been enabled in Percepxion, a one-time password (OTP) is sent via SMS/Email. In the pop-up that appears, enter the OTP that you were sent, then click Submit.
Check the Operation Status and Progress columns to see the progress of the provisioning and registering process.
Manual Device Registration Procedure¶
Use Manual Device Registration to provision and register your devices manually. This can be done without an active Internet connection on the computer running LPM. This process requires both LPM and a Percepxion account.
Step 1 - Generate device list in LPM¶
To generate a device list in LPM:
- Click Provision on the side menu.
- Select one or more devices to update. They must all be the same type of device (for example, all SLB devices).
- Click Central Management > Registration. If this isn't listed, the selected device doesn't support provisioning.
- Select the radio button next to Manual Device Registration and click Next.
- LPM generates a device list file (GeneratedDeviceFile.TDI) used for provisioning for the selected devices and stores it in the application directory. Click Finish to only obtain the device list. To continue with the Manual Device Registration process, click Continue.
Step 2 - Add devices in Percepxion¶
To add devices in Percepxion:
- Log into Percepxion. The user must have permission to import devices.
- Add the devices using the device list. See the Percepxion online User Guide for more information.
- Percepxion will attempt to add the devices.
- If the devices have been provisioned, they will be added, and the Manual Device Registration process will be complete.
- If one of more of the devices have not been provisioned, Percepxion will display an error and generate a provisioning file (device.edi) that will be used to provision the device(s). Download the provisioning file and continue with the remaining process.
Step 3 - Provision devices in LPM¶
To provision devices in LPM:
- Click Next in LPM.
- Upload the provisioning file downloaded from Percepxion.
- Click Finish. A new device file (ending in .TDI) is generated in the application directory.
Step 4 - Add provisioned devices in Percepxion¶
To add provisioned devices in Percepxion:
- Log into Percepxion. The user must have permission to import devices.
- Add the devices using the generated device file. See the Percepxion online User Guide for more information.
