Provisioning and Registering Devices¶

Use Lantronix Provisioning Manager to register Lantronix devices for central management in ConsoleFlow. It also provisions older devices for compatibility with ConsoleFlow. Newer devices are shipped pre-provisioned and are able to be registered without additional provisioning. Older devices must be provisioned for compatibility.

Use Automatic Device Registration, which is recommended, to automatically provision and register devices in ConsoleFlow. An active Internet connection is required on the computer running Lantronix Provisioning Manager.

Use Manual Device Registration to provision and register devices in ConsoleFlow using a multi-step process. Manual Device Registration can be done on a computer running Lantronix Provisioning Manager without an active Internet connection in conjunction with another computer that does have Internet access.

In some cases, provisioning and registering a device may fail if the device is not first imported using Project Import.

Supported Firmware Versions¶

Devices must meet firmware requirements in order to be provisioned with Lantronix Provisioning Manager.

Other devices do not support provisioning.

Before Registration¶

• Ensure the device credentials are set properly in Lantronix Provisioning Manager. See Important Information on Device Credentials for more information.
• Note that the Central Management Host server must be reachable from the computer running Lantronix Provisioning Manager and the device being registered.
• Ensure your ConsoleFlow account has permission to import devices.

Automatic Device Registration¶

Use Automatic Device Registration to provision and register devices quickly. This requires an Internet connection on the computer running Lantronix Provisioning Manager as well as a ConsoleFlow account.

To automatically provision and register devices:

1. Click Provision on the side menu.
2. Select one or more devices to update. They must all be the same type of device (for example, all SLB devices).
3. Click Central Management > Registration. If this isn't listed, the selected device doesn't support provisioning.
4. The radio button next to Automatic Device Registration('preferred') is already selected. Click Next.
5. Provide your ConsoleFlow credentials in the Username, Password, Portal, and Organization fields. If these were provided in settings, they will be filled in automatically but can be edited. If you are using ConsoleFlow with LDAP or TACACS+ authentication, Lantronix Provisioning Manager will attempt to use the credentials with these authentication methods as well. No configuration is required. Lantronix Provisioning Manager does not support SAML at this time.
6. Click Finish.
7. If two-factor authentication is required, you'll be prompted to choose a method to receive the one-time password (OTP). Select one, and click OK. In the confirmation window, click OK. Input the OTP and click Submit.

Check the Operation Status and Progress columns to see the progress of the provisioning and registering process.

Manual Device Registration¶

Use Manual Device Registration to provision and register your devices manually. This can be done without an active Internet connection on the computer running Lantronix Provisioning Manager. This process requires both Lantronix Provisioning Manager and a ConsoleFlow account.

Step one - Lantronix Provisioning Manager¶

To generate a device file in Lantronix Provisioning Manager:

1. Click Provision on the side menu.
2. Select one or more devices to update. They must all be the same type of device (for example, all SLB devices).
3. Click Central Management > Registration. If this isn't listed, the selected device doesn't support provisioning.
4. Select the radio button next to Manual Device Registration and click Next.
5. Lantronix Provisioning Manager generates a device file (GeneratedDeviceFile.TDI) used for provisioning for the selected devices and stores it in the application directory. Click Generate and Exit to only obtain the device file. To continue with the Manual Device Registration process, click Generate and Next.

Step two - ConsoleFlow¶

To add devices in ConsoleFlow:

1. Log into ConsoleFlow. The user must have permission to import devices.
2. Add the devices using the device file. See the ConsoleFlow online User Guide for more information.
3. ConsoleFlow will attempt to add the devices.
   • If the devices have been provisioned, they will be added, and the Manual Device Registration process will be complete.
   • If one of more of the devices have not been provisioned, ConsoleFlow will display an error and generate a provisioning file (device.edi) that will be used to provision the device(s). Download the provisioning file and continue with the remaining process.

Step three - Lantronix Provisioning Manager¶

To provision devices in Lantronix Provisioning Manager:

1. Click Next in Lantronix Provisioning Manager.
2. Upload the provisioning file downloaded from ConsoleFlow.
3. Click Finish. A new device file (ending in .TDI) is generated in the application directory.

Step four - ConsoleFlow¶

To add provisioned devices in Console Flow:

1. Log into ConsoleFlow. The user must have permission to import devices.
2. Add the devices using the generated device file. See the ConsoleFlow online User Guide for more information.
