Discovering Devices

Lantronix Provisioning Manager automatically discovers devices of the type(s) selected at the device type selection screen. It discovers devices only on the same subnet as the computer running Lantronix Provisioning Manager or in the IP range configured in Network Settings. Lantronix Provisioning Manager discovers devices by network interface. If a device has two network interfaces connected, Lantronix Provisioning Manager will list it twice.

Lantronix Provisioning Manager

To discover devices:

  1. On the side menu, click Provision.
  2. At the top, click the Discover Devices button discover.
  3. If provisioning has been configured in Settings and two-factor authentication has been enabled in ConsoleFlow, you will be prompted to choose a method of receiving a one-time password (OTP). Select either SMS or Email, and then click OK.
    Select an OTP method.
Enter the one-time password (OTP) that you were sent, and then click Submit.
    Enter the OTP.

After a device is discovered, its Operation Status will be Updating Device Info while Lantronix Provisioning Manager obtains device information. A device's name, firmware version, serial number, IP address, and MAC address will be displayed.

If Lantronix Provisioning Manager does not find a device, you may want to change the Timeouts and Retries configuration and ensure the appropriate IP range is configured in Network Settings if the device is not on the same subnet as the computer running Lantronix Provisioning Manager. If you do not know the device's subnet, contact your network administrator.

Note

If Lantronix Provisioning Manager is unable to log into the device, firmware details (such as firmware revision and, if applicable, firmware version in the non-active bank) will not be displayed and changes to the device (configuring, updating firmware, etc.) will not be allowed. See Important Information on Device Credentials for more information.

Device Attributes

The Devices page shows the following information:

Important Information on Device Credentials

Device credentials can be provided either in a Credentials File (in .CSV or .TDI format) or in Global Credentials in settings. The credentials file can be used to provide credentials for multiple devices when each device has unique credentials. Global Credentials can be used to use the same credentials for multiple devices.

When Lantronix Provisioning Manager attempts to log in to a device, it first checks the credentials file. If Lantronix Provisioning Manager fails to authenticate using the credentials in the credentials file or if a device isn't listed in the credentials file, it will use the credentials specified in Global Credentials.

By default, a device password is the last 8 characters of the Device ID (for devices manufactured after January 1, 2020) or is a model-specific password, such as "PASS" (for all older devices). If authentication fails with Global Credentials, the model-specific default credentials will be used.

If none of these methods work, Lantronix Provisioning Manager will attempt to authenticate using the last 8 characters of the Device ID as the password. It will connect to ConsoleFlow to get the Device ID.

Order of precedence:

  1. Credentials file (.CSV or .TDI)
  2. Global Credentials
  3. Model default credentials
  4. Last 8 characters of the Device ID

If authentication fails with all these methods, an error is shown under Operation Status for the relevant device. To resolve the error, click the menu button next to that device menu and click Device Credentials to set credentials for that specific device. Device-specific credentials are not saved.
